About 40% of cork is suberin, a natural water-repelling substance. Cork takes moisture into its surface and releases it again, instead of soaking through like paper.

How to care for them
- Wipe after service with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap.
- Air-dry flat. Do not stack them wet.
- Never soak them or use a dishwasher.
- Rotate stock. Keep a spare per table so a stained coaster can be retired without a gap.
